Girls Football Win!

After a fantastically fruitful football season, the Cardinal Newman girls football team (which is currently the most populated it has been in ages!) lead the school to glory by winning the ERPSSA cup! They secured their success with a 1-0 win against Cleves! Well done to the entire football team, who all contributed to this amazing achievement! We're so proud of all your hard work, commitment and positive attitude. Thank you also to all of the parents/carers for your support.

A special mention goes out to Clodagh for an absolutely stunning display of football technique and utterly dependable defensive skills in the cup final game. Clodagh - you were the CN player of the match!

We look forward to an equally enjoyable season in September with some fresh faces. Best of luck to all our Year 6 girls with their future sporting endeavours.

Miss Bealin-Kelly and Mrs Driessen

Gaelic Football

Cardinal Newman made history last Friday by participating for the first time in the All Britain Competition which, also for the first time, was hosted by Gael Londain club at Hazelwood in Sunbury-on-Thames. Over the four-day event, in excess of 3,800 children from schools and clubs across Britain and Ireland competed and we can honestly say that the 27 players who represented Cardinal Newman were up there with the best, not just on footballing skills but in attitude and how they represented their school. As you can see from the smiles on our faces in the photo attached, we all had a great time and we are so proud of them!

Huge thanks to Mr Doe and Mrs Williams for their support.

We also plan to run the Gaelic Football club again next year. It will run from September to the October half-term and then from Easter until Summer break.

For those moving on to Salesian, they have also started a Gaelic Football club and fielded a Y7/Y8 team at the ABCs so please do look out for that in September.

Gael Londain trains at Hazelwood on Fridays from 7pm - 8:30pm with boys and girls teams from Under 5 to Under 18. New members are always welcome. Home | Official Club Website (spond.club)

School Football

Well done to the Year 6 Cardinal Newman Football team for competing in the Surrey County Finals this morning. The boys had the opportunity to play at Meadowbank Stadium in Dorking and showed great perseverance and determination against top teams all across Surrey. They ensured that they worked together as a team and displayed fantastic support and teamwork throughout. Despite these great performances, the boys were knocked out by very challenging opponents. You were a credit to our school, well done!

Earlier this week, the girls' football team competed against Manorcroft School in Egham securing an 8-0 victory in the cup! Well done girls!

Football

The Cardinal Newman football teams had a brilliant week of fixtures!

The week started with a knockout cup game against Stepgates Community School in Chertsey, which the CN girls won (4-0)!

On Tuesday, Year 5/6 boys faced Walton Oak in a league fixture. Their strong performances saw an 11-0 and 10-0 victory for Year 5 and 6, respectively. Despite their excitement, they showed great sportsmanship!

On Thursday, CN girls took on the ERPSSA tournament in Royal Holloway. After convincing wins (and not even conceding 1 goal!) they reached the final and showed resilience and determination in a close loss against Cleves (1-0). The girls came 2nd overall and were gracious in their defeat.

Well done everyone!

Football

A fantastic start for our football teams this Year! Well done to all the football teams who took part in our matches and tournaments this week- you were amazing!

On Monday, the girls went to Walton Oak and showed great determination, respect and teamwork, winning 4-1. The girls kept their heads up after conceding and gelled naturally as a team.

Next was the Year 5 boys who went to Cleves and were up against a tough group of boys. The boys showed resilience and continued to work around the Cleves defence and eventually their hard efforts paid off, giving them a 2-0 lead.  Our defence managed to fend off the Cleves attack until the last minute, but the boys remained composed and continued to defend effectively until the final whistle. Well done!

On Thursday, the Year 6 boys went to Royal Holloway to play in a football tournament. After winning the group stage convincingly, the boys were up against tough opposition in the knockout stages and were extremely supportive of each other as they battled their way through 3 penalty shootouts and eventually winning the final. A great week for all at Cardinal Newman!'
